Component: Lookup

ComponentView
The *Lookup Service* is able to query LiveCycle's user management system to find information about a particular group or user. If LiveCycle happens to be synchronized with an LDAP directory then this service can find information about LDAP users and groups as well. This is extremely useful, simple utility where we know the person's login ID, and need to find out his/her emails address, or we know the name of a group but don't know who that group's members are (or their email addresses). If we can find that user or group, this service can give us their directory information as well (e.g. Phone number, Address, Organisation etc.).

Lookup Group

Find a group using specified search parameters. This component preceded a similar component provided by Adobe, but (in our opinion) is more powerful and easier to use.

Why use it
  • Knowing a small piece of information about a group (such as its common name) a process to needs to learn other profile information.
  • You need to send an email to all members of a group. Usually, the email directly associated with a group is blank. This service allows you to return a comma-separated list of email addresses that can be used as an input to the Email > Send operation.
  • Note: Should these search parameters match more than one group then only the first matching group gets returned.

Lookup User

Find a user using specified search parameters. This component preceded a similar component provided by Adobe, but (in our opinion) is more powerful and easier to use.

Why use it
  • Knowing a small piece of information about a user (such as login id) the process is able to retrieve other profile information about the user.
  • The User > assignTask step expects a user id as the input, but you only know the user's login name.
  • You are implementing a custom Render process, and wish to inject the first and last name of the current user into the form. The render process is passed the Principal ID (internal ID) of the user, so you can use this operation to retrieve the user's first and last names.
  • Note: Should these search parameters actually find more than one user then only the first matching user gets returned.
